A blurred background makes a subject stand out. A fully blurred photo hides what should not be seen. Both are one tool away, and both run free in your browser with no signup.
Two kinds of blur, two different jobs
Background blur keeps your subject sharp inside a focus area while the rest of the photo melts into a soft blur. It is the portrait look: the person or object stays crisp, the background fades.
Whole image blur blurs the entire photo at one strength. Use it when the point is hiding something — text on a document, a face in a crowd, a number plate — before you share the picture.
How to blur a background
- Upload a photo. JPG, PNG, and WebP all work.
- Drag the focus area over your subject.
- Tune the controls: blur strength for how soft the background gets, focus size for how much stays sharp, edge softness for how gently the sharp area fades into the blur, and focus shape (wide, circle, or tall) to match your subject.
- Download the result as a JPG.
How to blur a whole image
- Open the same tool and upload your photo.
- Switch Mode to Whole image. The focus controls hide, because there is no focus area anymore.
- Tune the strength until the detail you want hidden is unreadable, then download.
Check the result before sharing. A light blur still leaves text readable — if you are hiding something, push the strength until it is genuinely unreadable.
Tips for better results
- Put the focus area on the eyes for portraits. The eye is where viewers look first.
- A wide focus shape suits landscapes and groups. A tall shape suits a single standing person.
- More feather means a softer, more natural edge between sharp and blurred areas. A hard edge looks cut out.
- Blur is not a substitute for redaction on documents. For text inside PDFs, use a proper redaction tool instead.
Private by design
Everything runs locally in your browser. Your photo is never uploaded anywhere, and there is no account to create.
Frequently asked questions
What formats can I upload?
JPG, PNG, and WebP.
Can I blur just part of a photo, like one face?
The tool blurs either the background outside a focus area or the whole image. For one face in a group, whole image blur hides everything, or crop the photo first and blur the crop.
Does blurring reduce the photo quality?
The download is a JPG. Very high blur strengths soften fine detail by design — that is the effect, not a defect.
