About This Tool
Solve Equations and Evaluate Expressions
The Algebra Calculator solves equations and evaluates math expressions right in your browser. Three modes cover the essentials: Solve for x handles linear equations like 2x+3=11, Quadratic solves ax squared + bx + c = 0 with the discriminant, roots and vertex shown, and Evaluate computes expressions with correct order of operations.
Type equations naturally with x as the variable. Decimals are fine, and the expression mode supports plus, minus, multiply, divide, powers and parentheses. Everything runs in your browser, so no data leaves your device. The tool is free and needs no signup.
How to Use the Algebra Calculator
Three modes, one workflow each.
- Solve for x: Type a linear equation like 3x-7=5 or 5x+2=3x+12 and press Solve.
- Quadratic: Enter a, b and c, then Solve Quadratic for the roots, discriminant and vertex.
- Evaluate: Type an expression like 2+3*4 or (5-2)^3 and press Evaluate.
Expression Tips
- Use * for multiply: Type 2*3, not 2x3, in Evaluate mode.
- Use / for divide: Fractions work as decimals.
- Use ^ for powers: 2^3 means two cubed.
- Parentheses first: Grouping follows standard order of operations.
Key Features
- Linear solver: Handles equations like 2.5x+1=9 with decimals.
- Quadratic solver: Roots, discriminant, vertex and complex roots.
- Expression evaluator: Full order of operations with parentheses.
- Private by design: All math happens in your browser.
- Free for students: No signup, no cost, unlimited use.
