FIRE Calculator - Financial Independence
Plan financial independence free — find your FIRE number, years to FI, and whether you have already hit Coast FIRE.
Tool Interface
How to use
- FIRE tab: enter your age, current savings, income, and how much you save per year. The calculator finds your FIRE number (annual spending ÷ safe withdrawal rate) and how many years of saving and compounding it takes to get there.
- Coast FIRE tab: enter your current retirement savings and target retirement age. Coast FIRE means your savings will grow into a full retirement portfolio on their own — no more contributions needed.
- Defaults use a 7% expected annual return and the classic 4% safe withdrawal rate; adjust both to match your assumptions.
FIRE stands for Financial Independence, Retire Early. These are simplified educational estimates — real investing involves risk and variable returns. Everything runs in your browser — no signup.

About This Tool
Introduction
A fire calculator answers the biggest question in the Financial Independence, Retire Early movement: when can you stop working? Trencada's free FIRE Calculator has two modes. The FIRE tab takes your income, savings rate, and expected returns and computes your FIRE number (annual spending divided by your safe withdrawal rate), your years to financial independence, and how much of your final portfolio comes from contributions versus investment growth. The Coast FIRE tab tells you whether your current retirement savings will grow into a full retirement portfolio on their own — no more contributions needed. Everything runs entirely in your browser with no signup.

- Coast FIRE tab: enter your current age, retirement savings, expected return, target retirement age, and retirement spending.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- What is the 4% rule? It's the classic safe withdrawal rate: the idea that you can withdraw about 4% of your portfolio per year in retirement without running out. Your FIRE number is your annual spending divided by this rate. It's a rule of thumb, not a guarantee.
- What is Coast FIRE? Coast FIRE means you've saved enough that compound growth alone will carry you to a full retirement portfolio by your target age — you can stop saving for retirement and just "coast," covering only current expenses.
- Are these numbers financial advice? No. These are simplified educational estimates assuming constant annual returns. Real investing involves risk and variable returns — talk to a qualified professional before making big decisions.
- Do I need to create an account? No. Like all Trencada tools, it works instantly with no signup or login.
- Is my data private? Yes. The tool runs entirely in your browser — no financial details leave your device.
